Medical Researchers have focused on biomechanics and ergonomics for String Players. Teachers and Parents are concerned with any issues that might result in hurting or in any way affecting the health of performers wether in sports or music. Most Violin Shoulder Rests employ a rigid brace that causes musculoskeletal pain and discomfort in the neck area, sometimes resulting in bruising of the collarbone. Most are manufactured in China and other Asian countries, with cheap labor and bad materials containing TOXINS. Children may start playing the violin as young as 3 years old and have a tendency to place things in their mouth, making TOXINS a serious concern.
Clamping shoulder rests were invented almost 80 years ago and employ rigid bracing, attaching to the instrument with clamps and a metal bridge. These limit the player’s movement and adjustment and result in musculoskeletal pain and discomfort. Being put in a brace for the long hours of practice needed to obtain excellence can result in serious problems and injury.
At a July 2015 Symposium held by PAMA*, these issues were discussed and new products dedicated to avoiding these risks were introduced. PAMA invited AcoustaGrip products to be analyzed at the Symposium. AcoustaGrip products are exclusively manufactured in the USA and certified to not contain any Toxins. They are not rigid and they don’t hold the player in a vice-like, unnatural posture. They have been recommended by PAMA to patients.
AcoustaGrip products are made from Acoustical Foam layered with a patented layer of Air Pockets and contain no clamps or glues. These Hyper Nano Air pockets compress when placed against the back of the violin, causing the lightweight shoulder rests to attach gently and securely with Air. They can be attached and re-attached repeatedly. Another essential feature welcomed by parents and teachers is the fact that they can be attached and left on when the instrument is stored in the case. They compress for storage and then have a memory to reform for use when the case is opened.
AcoustaGrip products are currently distributed and available in the US and Canada and even around the world. AcoustaGrip CELLO Rests provide comfort and no bruising for cellists.
